There are some things to have been found that make people consistently happy with their homes. According to a survey conducted by Houzz.com, the top five things are:

1. Big windows and comfortable furniture. 75% of respondents found these two things to be deal breakers. Lots of natural light and a cozy space make for a relaxing home environment. 

2. Big Screen T.V. This was more predominantly found of importance in happiness with a home in men versus women. Yet, there are plenty of women out there who can enjoy the big screen as well!

3. Overall Design & Layout. 87% of the people surveyed said that the design of a home is a major contributor to the overall happiness. If there is something you have been wanting to fix up, go ahead and do it!

4. Home Cookin’. This is our personal favorite. Who does like a home cooked meal. Not only is it tasty, but the aroma of a cooked meal or baked treats is another positive contributor to happiness of your home. 

5. Keep it Tidy! De-clutter and only have what you love in your home. 72% of people surveyed said that a well-organized home makes them happy. A clean home can provide relief of a  stressful day.

Celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776, the Fourth of July is just around the corner! If you are still not sure of what to do for the Fourth of July, we have found plenty of events for you in the Tampa Bay Area. Here are some suggestions we have: 

> Visit the Florida Aquarium – With a fireworks display, family-friendly entertainment, and an All-American dinner menu, the Florida Aquarium will be a fun event for all. Fireworks take place starting at 9:15pm You may also choose to purchase tickets for a Fireworks Cruise on their Bay Spirit II Catamaran departing at 7:30pm. >Red, White, and ZOO – Come check out Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo. It is fun for everyone! Members of the military and three direct dependents can get in for free the 3rd-5th! Click here to learn more. 

>Fireworks at the Clearwater Threshers July 3rd! – More of a sports fan? Check out the Clearwater Threshers – a minor league team of the Phillies organization. The Threshers take on the Yankees at 6:30 p.m. at Bright House Field in Clearwater. This is an awesome venue to be a part of. The park usually has great attendance, and has a restaurant/bar behind left field…Pretty cool! Get tickets here!

>Across the Bay Firework Celebration & RAYS Street Team – Downtown St. Pete – Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the show! Downtown St. Pete will have grand display of their own. This is the perfect location…walk around downtown and enjoy the local dining and shops then head over to St. Pete’s Beach Park for the display beginning at 9:00pm. Find out more here!

>Rowdies Block Party – Al Lang Stadium hosts a pre-game Budweiser Tailgate Party. Budweiser Rally Towels will be given to the first 750 guests. Post-Match concert and prime viewing of the city fireworks after the game! Check it out here!

>Gulfport Block Party – If you are looking for some fun during the daytime…this may be the spot for you! Starting at 2:00pm Gulfport will host a block party with arts and crafts, food vendors, and live entertainment. This could make a great date, or family outing! See the fireworks at 9:15pm, and for more info click here!

Last night our team and friends enjoyed cocktails and hors d’eurves while watching the beautiful sunset. The Tampa Bay Watch is located on the shoreline of Cunningham Key, just before the entrance of Fort Desoto in Tierra Verde. They have beautiful 2,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor space with a huge porch overlooking the bay. We were thankful to have this porch for the evening to enjoy our cocktails as the storm rolled right on by. Some may find the hard rain and lightning to make them a little uneasy, but we found it to be relaxing. Here are a few pictures of us on a tour of the buildings and enjoying the outdoor space. You can see the clouds and rain coming through, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the night!

We learned some things about the Tampa Bay Watch which we found pretty interesting! They host many summer camps and classes to educate students and kids that come through. We were told a story of one young kid growing up in St. Petersburg who had never actually been to the beach! The Tampa Bay Watch helps children learn more about their community and the environment. We thought that was pretty cool. Check out this map of St. Pete painted on the floor to help students learn more!

 The Tampa Bay Watch has some events we think you might be interested in. In June they hold a catch and release tarpon tournament called the Ed Alber Tarpon Rodeo. For October, they have Pumpkins on the Porch. And for November, they host an Evening for the Bay. Click here to check out more.

Laura Joyce Moriarty studied Political Science at Emory University and went on for a Masters Degree at the University of Georgia. She then worked at Emory for 17 years in Information Technology.

During her tenure, she spoke and wrote extensively on Information Technology topics and was the chief editor of a scholarly journal on how IT can be integrated into learning and teaching programs. Many of her papers on IT can still be found on the Internet.

After retiring, she widened her teaching and research efforts to include various creative works including topics on literature, and social and cultural development. She is also an artist of pastels on suede. And if that isn’t enough Laura Joyce Moriarty has re-entered the world of real estate previously an agent in another state!
